I like to use one of those ultra thin body wallet/fanny pack things you can wear under a shirt if I’m going to be walking around a lot or in high tourist/transportation areas. I’ve see way too many people walking around with a cell phone in their back pocket. Some people just asked to be pickpocketed.

back in college with a bunch of friends in the French Quarter in NOLA, had a local tell us to put our wallets in our front pocket... education is key.. thanks for the reminder

Wear a sling bag that you can easily swing around to your front and rest your arm on it. I don’t understand why I rarely see other tourists doing this in major cities.

My mother in law got pick pocketed on a train in Milan last summer and someone went through my backpack while I was asleep on the train from Milan to Verona. The funny thing is that the wallet was probably more valuable than the cash in it and thr wallet probably ended up in the trash. Just be safe and smart when traveling.

I’ve recently come back from Prague and even though I used a sling bag I still had my pocket picked when I was visiting the castle (all they got was some change and castle ticket)

Got my phone stolen getting on the tram in Florence....crowd surged, took my hand off my pocket for about 5 seconds to grab the overhead rail, went right back to my pocket. Gone. That, BTW, was a front pocket with a zipper.

True story: my friend decided to get even so he put a lot of broken glass in his pockets walked off our cruise ship and deliberately played the fool until someone made a grab into his pockets.

The very first morning I was in Barcelona, some young guy came up from behind me and tried to grab the chain off my neck. He did not succeed but it really tarnished my view of the city for the rest of the trip. It's a shame, because it's a lovely city. I won't be going back; there are plenty of other places to visit.
