I lived in Japan for five years and used to travel to China six times which each time lasted about 2 to 3 weeks. In my opinion, Japan is overrated and China is so underrated. Chinese people are super friendly, the streets in China are also super clean. In addition to that, safety is never an issue at all in China. Nobody is going to harass you even if you walk alone in the middle of the night. Moreover, China is super modern in terms of transportation, accommodation and mobile payments. Western media just lie way too much about China.
