First Multi-Million Dollar Sale: At ages 19 and 17, they created Auctomatic, a management software for eBay sellers [01:20]. Within 10 months, they launched, tested, and sold the company for $5 million [01:27].

App Store Contrast: While attending Harvard and MIT, the brothers paid their tuition by developing iOS applications [01:44]. They realized how effortless payment collection was on Apple’s App Store compared to standard web e-commerce, which felt stuck in the 1970s [01:52].

Friction for Web Startups: Setting up merchant accounts and handling currencies, compliance, and payment routing diverted substantial focus and capital

3. Launching and Scaling Stripe

Building /dev/payments: In late 2009, the brothers dropped out of university and moved to Buenos Aires to build a developer-friendly payment processing API, originally named /dev/payments [02:47].

Y Combinator & Major Backing: Y Combinator founder Paul Graham funded the company [03:49]. During their 2010 beta, they attracted prominent angel investor

Public Launch & Valuation Boom: Stripe launched publicly in September 2011 [04:22]. Following major investments from Sequoia Capital and Amex Ventures [04:30], Stripe’s valuation surged from $1.7 billion to $3.4 billion in 2014, eventually reaching $35 billion by 2019 [04:38].

Stripe Radar: A machine-learning fraud detection system that reduced credit card fraud by up to 25% [05:05].

Stripe Atlas: A platform allowing global founders to quickly incorporate and launch a business in the U.S. [05:13].

Anyone other than me who was totally unaware of stripe ?
@whut9245
your demographic of viewers must be rich as hell on average to be getting a sponsor that requires a minimum 10k investment
@abdikafarabdirahman8414
Stripe won because their primarily users were developers. All you have to do is copy a view lines of code and your payment process is done. That is magical.
@Fionan95
I live in the Irish home town these boys grew up in, and the funny thing is our City Council Enterprise Board rejected their idea when they asked for funding as teenagers. Moral of the Story? Don't let old people make decisions about tech start-ups !!
@BusyBodyVisa
I'm so grateful to stripe because they finally gave paypal some real competition. Paypal can no longer be the tyrant that they were before.
