In the video titled "Stop believing the lies about AI Music" by Nathan James Larsen, the creator directly counters the pessimistic narrative that "AI has killed music" or that "art is dead." He argues that AI's rise has actually heightened people's desire for real human connection, authenticity, and realness in art.

To support his argument, Larsen outlines five data-backed points showing that human-made music—and independent music in particular—is thriving today.

Key Points and Data Presented

Vinyl Surge: US vinyl sales surpassed $1 billion in 2025 for the first time since 1983. Over the past decade (2016–2025), vinyl revenues grew from $224 million to over $800 million—more than quadrupling.

Recorded Music Growth: The recorded music industry reached over $11 billion in revenue in 2025 despite streaming making music practically free to access.

Reason: Audiences buy physical music intentionally for the tangible human experience and personal conn

Record-Breaking Demand for Live Concerts [02:29]

Attendance: Live Nation reported a record 159 million attendees across 55,000 concerts in 2025.

Revenue: Global live concert revenues reached ~$40 billion in 2025, with projections adding another $10 billion over the following years.

Independent Artist Impact: Independent artists are leaning heavily into live performances because live events fulfill an audience craving for human connection that AI algorithms cannot replicate.

No Real Humans Are Listening to AI Music [05:32]

Upload Volume vs. Actual Streams: According to Deezer data, nearly 75,000 AI-generated tracks are uploaded daily (making up ~44% of daily platform uploads). However, AI music accounts for only 1% to 3% of total platform streams.

Bot Manipulation: 85% of streams on AI-generated tracks are detected as fraudulent bot streams.

Platform Action: Major services (Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music, YouTube) actively identify and remove AI spam and fake streams.

Public Demand for

Transparency & Authenticity [07:07]

Ipsos Global Survey Findings:

97% of listeners could not tell AI-generated music from human music in blind tests.

80% believe fully AI-generated music must be explicitly labeled.

73% want transparency on whether algorithms are recommending AI-generated tracks.

52% believe AI songs should be excluded from official music charts alongside human creators.

Takeaway: While listeners might not always distinguish AI sound, they strongly care about human authorship and reject artificial

Independent Human Creators Are Dominating the Market [08:51]

Royalty Distribution: 50% of global streaming royalties in 2025 went to independent artists.

UK Market: According to the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), independent artists represented 55% of total streams in Q1 2025.

New Releases: Over 70% of newly released music originates from independent creators.

Conclusion & Final Message

Larsen concludes by encouraging music creators to reject internet cynicism and doom-mongering [09:28]. He emphasizes that this is the easiest and most accessible era in history to record, distribute, and perform music independently, and that human connection will always keep real music alive.

THANKYOU NATHAN!! I will fully admit I've been duped into believing the false reality and I'd be lying if it hasn't affected my enthusiasm to keep creating. It's about seeing the glass half full
@nickmartinez7674
We saw Josiah Queen in concert. Sold out both nights. I was amazed that everyone sang every song he performed. Every concert this year we went to was a full house. Merch lines were very long. ❤

Absolutely the right approach to have the mindset of abundance instead of grievance. There’s no way to make music if you kill your own soul. Loved hearing that more than half of music is made by indies.
@turtleturtlepower
10:03 ughhhh damnit, needed to hear that.

CHEERS FOR THIS , INTERESTING AND NICE TO KNOW 💯🤠
@MarkTheMinstrel
This is actually very encouraging! as an independent artist and content creator, knowing that not only is human-made music appreciated, but ragebait and doomer content is disliked is very encouraging to hear. I thought it was the new meta and I was just going to lose my views but now I see that my instinct was correct.

As a songwriter, it is true AI CAN come up with some interesting ideas BUT you still need a human to decide if it sounds good. You need a human to make a complete amazing song. It is such a pain to make detail changes to a song created by AI. AI songs mostly suck. Sorry, only people who wish they could play an instrument think their songs made on Suno are any good. They mostly suck or they are bad copies of songs that already exist. The human element is so so important in deciding what's good and what's not.

AI creators herald in a new era for the term loser.
@aspirativemusicproduction2135
I didn't think you would do anything but motivational speach. My statistic shows that I don't have listeners under 25 years old. No, they don't know in advance if my songs are good or bad. People under certain age only listen to music on video games and whatever background music they hear on social media. They don't go to concerts for the music but for social gatherings because that's a way to meet people. Because otherwise they are afraid to talk to strangers. We have generation of people missing normal human behavior. The hell with music. They can't even listen to music like we did.

I hope hope hope this is true! Yay humans!

When I hear an AI generated voice in a youtube video, I know that the content is not reliable and I close the tab in 3 seconds.
