Sky News Defence Analyst Peter Jennings says US President Donald Trump called a halt to US military operations in the Iran war too soon. “We came to a point where America was snatching defeat from the jaws of victory,” Mr Jennings told Sky News host Rowan Dean. “The president called a halt to military operations too soon.”

This segment from Sky News Australia features defense analyst Peter Jennings discussing a strategic roadmap for the United States to defeat the Iranian regime following the collapse of a fragile ceasefire [00:00].

The primary critique presented is that President Donald Trump previously limited the conflict's focus too narrowly to immediate military outcomes, neglecting economic and political dynamics, and halted operations prematurely [01:08]. Jennings argues that achieving the broader goals of stopping Iran's nuclear ambitions, halting missile launches, and stopping regional terrorism requires a deliberate strategy of regime change [01:34].

Key Strategic Pillars Proposed

Rather than striking minor targets like small vessels in the Persian Gulf [01:48], the analyst outlines th

Shift in Diplomatic Stance

Negotiation is deemed entirely useless, particularly following an alleged Iranian plot targeting President Trump that forced a sudden upgrade to a more secure aircraft upon leaving a NATO summit in Turkey [02:12].

Additionally, internal U.S. policy dynamics are highlighted, with recommendations to involve officials like Marco Rubio more deeply in the planning phase, contrasting past policy directions associated with JD Vance [02:56].

Oh come on Dean … he was worried about oil and oil prices and weren’t the USA running out of weapons .. really they took THAAD bits out of their ally Sth Korea for Middle East and announced delays in weapons deliveries to at least two countries ..…. USA needed to regroup that was publicly admitted basically they signed the MOU under false pretences..

Trump ran out of missiles that's why he had to halt the operations. He hadn't initially planned for a long war. He thought Iran was Venezuela so he didn't foresee a long war.
